Are you ready to unlock the secret to moving more?
When you hear the word exercise, what does it make you think of? Maybe it’s heading to the gym or trying a workout class.
For lots of people, the world of exercise can be scary! We’re here to help you navigate your way through it and find a way of moving more that works for you.
Start where you are
The very fact that you’re reading this blog is fantastic! It shows you’re starting to think about your fitness journey. The first step can be one of the hardest ones to take, so well done you. Remember that making a small change in your routine can make a big difference over time.
The great thing about movement is that you can mix things up as much as you like. There are some people who love the energy of dance videos at home, while others prefer the peaceful rhythm of a morning walk. Some find joy in gardening, others in playing with their children or grandchildren. What’s something you would like to try?
Everyday activities to moving more
You might already be more active than you think. Take a look at your weekly routine. Doing household jobs can get your heart pumping. Carrying shopping bags, taking the stairs instead of the lift, or parking a bit further from the shops all add up throughout the day, too.
Gardening is brilliant exercise too. Digging, weeding, and watering plants work different muscle groups whilst connecting you with nature. Don’t have access to garden? Why not look at local allotments you can join, or do some volunteering for a local park?
The more the merrier
Having an activity buddy can hold you more accountable too! You could stroll with a friend and catch up on gossip. Join a local walking group or find a dance class that makes you laugh. Play active games with family members. Swimming is gentle on joints and many pools offer special sessions for different needs. Plus, community centres often run affordable classes for various fitness levels.
Try online options
Not quite ready to get more active in front of others? That’s totally fine! You could try an online workout instead. Find free videos for yoga, Pilates, dancing, or strength training. There’s so many possibilities and the chances are, if you can think of an exercise you’d like to try, you can find a video online to talk you through it. Anything that gets you moving more is good in our books!
